Heavyweight Prospect Steve Mocco Signs with World Series of Fighting
by Chris Houten - @mrhouts
2008 U.S. Olympic freestyle wrestling team member Steve Mocco has signed a four-fight contract with the World Series of Fighting.
A member of American Top Team, Mocco (4-0) is a two-time NCAA Division I heavyweight champion and four-time All American who is widely considered one of the most dominate collegiate heavyweight wrestlers of all time.
Originally brought in at American Top Team to help Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva prepare for his UFC 146 bout with Cain Velasquez, Mocco made the decision to move into MMA after being unable to get past the US trials to to enter the 2012 London Olympics. Mocco subsequently signed with American Top Team and made his MMA debut at RFA 4 in 2012. Since making his MMA debut, the 32 year old has won 3 of 4 fights by submission.
Mocco has yet to be given a date for his World Series of Fighting debut, although WSOF executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz told MMAFighting.com earlier today we will see Mocco fighting for the promotion "very soon" but gave no further details.
