Cage Warriors sign Simeon Thoresen

Simeon Thoresen is the latest addition to the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship roster

Thoresen (17-4-1) has signed a five-fight deal, which will see him compete exclusively for CWFC over a minimum period of 18 months.

The Norwegian welterweight, who previously fought under the CWFC banner in 2008, joins the promotion following a three-fight stint with the UFC.

Having submitted Besam Yousef in his UFC debut in April 2012, Thoresen will be eager to returning to winning ways with Cage Warriors following losses to Seth Baczynski and David Mitchell.

A submission specialist, Thoresen has taken all but one of his 17 professional wins inside the distance, 15 of which have come by way of tap-out.

The 29-year-old holds other notable wins over the likes of Fabricio Nascimento and current CWFC star and fellow UFC veteran John Maguire.

He said:
“Cage Warriors is a great organisation, very professionally run, and I’m excited to be a part of it. I’m really excited about fighting again in 2014.”
Kingdom MMA's opinion:
This addition continues to add even more strength to Cage Warriors already stacked welterweight division and will lead to some great match ups for the division in 2014. The timing of the announcement fits perfectly if Thoresen wanted to make his Cage Warriors return in Scandinavia with Cage Warriors 66 taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark on March 22nd.

UFC Sign Noad Lahat, debuts at Fight Night 38

UFC sign Noad Lahat, Featherweight makes debut at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson II

The UFC has announced the signing of Noad Lahat. The popularity of the UFC has soared in Israel recently, with all programming broadcast on the “free to air” Sport 5, part of The Sports Channel LTD group. Now with this announcement, made on Friday, that popularity will only increase.

Noad Lahat is an undefeated mixed martial artist with a 7-0 record. He is based out of the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose, USA.

On the signing, Sean Shelby said:
“Israeli born, Noad Lahat is a great undefeated featherweight prospect possessing a strong ability to finish fights with an outstanding ground game.”
Lahat will make his UFC debut when Godofredo Pepey welcomes the undefeated featherweight prospect to the Octagon in Natal, Brazil at UFC Fight Night 38: Shogun vs. Henderson II on Saturday 23rd March. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout.

Noad Lahat said:
“I’m really excited to have signed with the UFC and can’t wait for my first fight. Getting this contract means that my years of hard work are finally paying off, but it’s also just the beginning of what I want to accomplish in the UFC and in my career. I’m an exciting fighter, I finish fights. I’m going to keep doing that and go out there and impress people.

“As the only Israeli fighter on the UFC roster I hope that my success will inspire and motivate fighters from my home country. I hope that I can connect with fans and be someone they cheer for and support. Having an Israeli fighting in the UFC will help educate people and grow the sport in the country.”

Joe Ellenberger signs for the UFC

Ellenberger signs four fight deal to fight for the UFC

by Ben Heather @benheather

Joe Ellenberger, the twin brother of longtime UFC welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger has signed for the UFC.

The part that makes Ellenberger (14-1) joining his brother as part of the UFC roster is the fact he was told back in 2009 that his fighting career would have to end. At the time his record was 10-0 and he was diagnosed with Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, a disease that attacks and destroys the red blood cells. Not only was he told he would not fight again, he was told the chances are he would not be alive to celebrate his 30th birthday.

Thankfully for everyone that is not the case and with the help of Soliris, a drug which is used to prevent the breakdown of red blood cells in people with Ellenberger's condition he has been able to focus back on his career. Ellenberger returned to fighting in 2011 after a 22 month lay off and won back to back fights before losing for the first time in his career in October 2011 against Justin Salas, who signed for the UFC after the win.

After that loss he has got back to winning ways with two wins in 2012 but has not fought since then so him signing for the UFC now came as a bit of a surprise. As yet there is no date set for him to make for debut in the UFC but I for one will be looking forward to seeing him make it on the big show and complete his dream.

UFC finally sign another flyweight

Montague gets a tough debut at UFC 166

by Jack Broadey @J3cK_b

On October 16th, Darrell Montague will step foot in to the UFC's octagon to make his debut against John Dodson. There are plenty of very good flyweight fighters around and the UFC Flyweight division is very shallow. It should therefore come as no surprise the UFC have added Darrell Montague to its ranks.

Montague has long been rumoured to be in the UFC crosshairs and they've finally got there man. He brings a credible 13-2 record into the Octagon. In 2011 he defeated former UFC fighter Ulysez Gomez for the Tachi Palace flyweight title. He was defeated by current contender Ian "uncle creepy" McCall. He has since gone on a 4 fight winning streak.

His debut will be as tough as they come as he takes on former title challenger John Dodson. Dodson gave champion Demetrius Johnson everything he could handle but ultimately came up just short. He will be looking to bounce right back into title contention with a win here and in the process knock back another potential challenger.
